Nadal beat Swede Robin Soderling 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 to set the longest Open Era claycourt winning streak, beating Guillermo Vilas' 1977 record. James Blake also won over Paradorn Srichaphan 6-0, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). He is on course to meet Nadal in the quarters. On the women's side, Clijsters and Venus Williams are among those who advanced to the second round.
